Planning a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower

If the Groom's feeling left out, if the Maid of Honor is male, or if the Bride has a lot of male friends, a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower may be just what the doctor ordered. A Jack and Jill Shower is a Bridal Shower which both the Bride and Groom attend, and to which both male and female guests are invited. Before planning this type of Bridal Shower, the Maid of Honor should definitely check with the Bride and Groom to make sure they're on board. You wouldn't want to force the Groom to attend, or take away the Bride's enjoyment of the Bridal Shower. So check before moving forward!

While the Jack and Jill Shower is very similar to a traditional Bridal Shower, there are a few changes the Maid of Honor should consider making around location, theme and activities.

Jack and Jill Bridal Shower: Location

The Maid of Honor will have many of the same things to consider when choosing the location of a Jack and Jill Shower as a regular Bridal Shower, with a slight difference. For a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower, it's often better to try to find a more active or engaging location.

You could, for example, hold the Shower at a local park where guests could play frisbee and enjoy the outdoors. Or you could set up a wine tasting at a local winery or restaurant. It all depends on what the Bride and Groom's interests are, and what the Maid of Honor's budget allows for.

Jack and Jill Bridal Shower: Theme

While a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower can have a theme similar to traditional Showers, the Maid of Honor should avoid anything too "cute" (I really hate to put it this way, but you know what I mean!). The male Bridal Shower guests would probably be less excited about an Easter bunny theme, for instance. Instead, opt for a location or hobby related theme. An evening affair where the Maid of Honor invites guests to appear in semi-formal attire could also be fun.

Jack and Jill Bridal Shower: Activities

In terms of what activities to plan for a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower, the attendance of the Bride and Groom, as well as male and female guests, lends itself to certain extremely entertaining activities. Why not ask the Bride and Groom questions ahead of time and have a trivia game to see who knows the other better?

Or the Maid of Honor may want to play a "Dating Game," where couples (married, dating, or even friends if they don't have significant others) try to guess each other's answers to prewritten questions. You could then give out cool prizes to the winning couple! Jack and Jill Bridal Showers are also a terrific opportunity to play games men versus women which really gets the party going!
